The cast iron #8 chicken fryer and the self-basting lid were made by Lodge in the 1960s. Lodge cast iron from this time period was unmarked but identified by the notches at the 9:00, 12:00, and 3:00 positions on the heat ring. Also, identifying this as a Lodge is the unmistakable font used by the company to this day. The chicken fryer has been restored, cleaned, and triple-seasoned by hand. The seasoning was completed with a clarified oil that leaves the fryer with a rich deep chestnut color look that will transform into traditional black color over time from cooking. This chicken fryer is perfect for frying, baking, braising, and everyday use. The top of the chicken fryer is unmarked but does have a small helper handle opposite the main handle. The bottom of the chicken fryer is marked with a 3/4" number 8, CF abbreviation for Chicken Fryer, mold mark D and of course the three-notch heat ring. The top of the lid is unmarked and the inside is marked with 10 1/4, 8, and a series of self-basting nubs.
