This hammered chicken fryer and lid were made by Wagner Ware in the 1940s. After casting, Wagner Ware skillets were finished with a milled surface to make them a much smoother cooking surface than modern cast iron skillets. The chicken fryer and lid have been restored, cleaned, and triple-seasoned.

The chicken fryer and lid have been restored, cleaned, and triple-seasoned by hand. The seasoning was completed with a clarified oil that leaves the pan with a rich deep chestnut color look that will transform into a traditional black color over time from cooking. This skillet is perfect for cornbread, sauteing, and everyday use. The sides of the chicken fryer and top of the lid are finished with a hammered appearance. The inside of the lid features self-basting scalloped concentric circles. Wagner Ware was founded in 1891 in Sidney, OH, and operated until 1959, when a company purchased it in Providence, RI. Wagner Ware was known for the fine casting of their cast iron cookware and smooth milled cooking surfaces. Their logo transitioned over the years from block Wagner or Sidney lettering to the stylized Wagner logo.
